WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Joe Biden hopes to focus on the flow of fentanyl into the United States at a meeting in Mexico City next week with leaders from Mexico and Canada, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said ( NYSE:), told reporters at the White House on Friday.

Biden’s agenda for Mexico City includes discussions about supply chains, fentanyl, climate change, immigration and drug cartels, Kirby said.

When asked about specific steps the United States would like to see from Mexico to stop fentanyl production and smuggling, Kirby said he did not want to prejudge the summit. “They’re going to talk a lot about it,” he said.

The recent arrest of cartel leader Ovidio Guzman “is no small feat by Mexican authorities,” Kirby said. “It’s not that we haven’t had success. I mean £20,000 is a lot,” he said, referring to the amount of the drug US Customs have seized since last August.

“But it just keeps coming back,” Kirby said.
