I’m not sure it’s possible to have a better 365 day stretch than Cale Makar.

That’s why he’s Superman, after all.

Cale Makar was selected by the NHL to his second straight All-Star Game Thursday night.

Big surprise right?

According to the publication of The Avalanche, Makar, 24, is only the third defenseman in franchise history to be nominated for the NHL All-Star Game in consecutive seasons, alongside Sandis Ozolinsh (1996-97 and 1997-98) and Rob Blake (three times in a row, 2001-02, 2002-03 and 2003-04).

Makar currently leads the Avalanche defense with 34 points in 36 games, including nine goals. He is third on the team on points, behind only Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen.

That pretty much concludes the 365-day stretch for Makar. All-Star Game last year, Norris Trophy, Conn Smythe Trophy, Stanley Cup and another All-Star Game. His trophy room will be full before he’s even 25.

It is possible that the Avalanche will team up with another player at the All-Star game taking place February 3-4 in Sunrise, Fla.

The three remaining players per division (two skaters, one goalie) will be selected as part of the 2023 Honda All-Star Fan Vote presented by Guaranteed Rate, which begins tonight at 9 p.m. ET and runs through January 17th.

That means Mikko Rantanen, the team’s top scorer so far and this year’s MVP, has a chance to be included via fan vote.

Makar and the Avalanche will be in Vancouver tonight to take on the Canucks, who are trying to end their four-game losing streak.
