AMC canceled another show while it was in production. Last month, it was announced that Moonhaven’s second season renewal had been reversed. Yesterday we reported that the cable network had pulled the plug on Invitation to a Bonfire in the middle of filming and canceled plans to air Season 2 of 61st Street. Now comes the news that Demascus has also been dropped.

The comedic sci-fi series The Demascus TV Show stars Okieriete Onaodowan, Janet Hubert, Caleb Eberhardt and Shakira Ja’nai Paye, as well as Martin Lawrence and Sasha Hutchings in recurring roles. The series has been described as a character-driven exploration of life as an ordinary black man in America today. The series revolves around Demascus (Onaodowan), a 33-year-old black man who embarks on a journey of self-discovery. He does this with innovative new technology that allows him to experience different versions of his life. Storylines follow these vivid psychological explorations as well as Demascus’ own primary reality.

Like Invitation to a Bonfire, the Demascus show was serialized last February, with the intention of airing both this year. Playwright Tearrance Arvelle Chisholm’s comedic sci-fi series is executive produced by Mark Johnson (Better Call Saul). Kirk Moore (American Crime) is the showrunner and Myki Bajaj from Gran Via is also producing.

Campfire Invitation was in the middle of filming, and the show’s creator says work is underway to find a new home for the series. In theory, a new home could also be found to end the Demascus series.

The decision to cancel the show mid-production follows cost-cutting measures announced by AMC in December. The company said it would take up to $475 million in writedowns.

Demascus showrunner Kirk A. Moore shared his reaction to the cancellation via social media:
