João Félix joins Chelsea on a half-season loan
#João #Félix #joins #Chelsea #halfseason #loan Welcome to Alaska Green Light Blog, here is the new story we have for you today:
According to multiple reports, Atlético Madrid and Chelsea FC have reached an oral agreement on a loan deal for Portuguese star João Félix. Chelsea will pay Madrid a fee of $11.8 million on top of Félix’s salary for the remainder of the season.
The deal does not include a purchase option for Chelsea.
It’s not typical for a club to loan out a player like Félix but the 23-year-old was clearly unhappy with the lack of playing time he was getting under Diego Simeone and Atléti needed a way to resolve the situation. However, it doesn’t seem to be the beginning of the end of Félix’s time at Madrid as he signed a contract extension with Madrid until 2027 before agreeing to the loan deal.
While on loan, Félix has the opportunity to break into Graham Potter’s first team. Chelsea have made several attempts over the past year to resolve their problems with the attack – including a $118 million transfer for Romelu Lukaku, a $57 million transfer for Raheem Sterling and a referral of of $11.8 million for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – but none of his investments have paid off so far.
Chelsea have also had bad luck with injuries this season. Aubameyang was sidelined in Sunday’s 4-0 defeat by Manchester City and Sterling and Christian Pulisic were substituted with their own injuries.
Félix may not be the answer for Chelsea in the short or long term, but something had to be done to salvage its season and it could have done far worse than Félix, one of the most promising young attacking talents in European football.
Chelsea are currently 10th in the Premier League with a record of 7-4-6. Atlético Madrid is fifth in La Liga 8-3-5.
