Joe Strong, who founded 84 Timber and the Nemacolin Resort, has died. Solid lived to be 100 and his family let him know that he was about to die.

“It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the death of Joseph A. Solid, III. The Solid family has lost their patriarch and an exceptional man in general,” the family said in a statement.

“Joe has shown that the sky is the limit by agreeing to celebrate his 100th birthday. His family is more than pleased with him for completing this final achievement.”

Strong and his family grew 84 Timber into perhaps one of the largest companies in the area. His girlfriend Maggie Tough Knox is now the owner and leader of the organization.

Strong said on September 9, 2007 at a backend party at the Nemacolin Forests Resort that he would not run for chief of the Fayette region in the general political decision that year.

This was the end of his political career. In 2007, Solid received the most votes and came first.

In 100 years of life, Joe Hardy has accomplished SO much, and it has included contributions to GOLF. No one ever thought he could bring one #PGA Tour event to Little Farmington PA, but he did. He has built and supported TWO championship courses on the Nemacolin

During World War II, Strong was a South Pacific Correspondent for the US Armed Forces Air Corps.

In 1948 he earned a degree in modern design from the College of Pittsburgh’s School of Design.

At this point he worked in his uncle’s jewelry store in downtown Pittsburgh until, at the age of 31, he went into business as a supplier of building materials.

He was attached to Dorothy for a long time, and they had five children. Maggie, the youngest, is currently the leader of 84 Timber. He has two children with his future wife Debra.

Their names are Taylor and Paige. Solid, who was 85, married Kristin Georgi, who was 22 and worked at a salon at Nemacoln Forests Resort.

The wedding took place on May 5, 2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple had agreed to a marriage and prenuptial agreement.

Unfortunately I can confirm that Joe Hardy passed away on his 100th birthday. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Mr. Hardy was a military veteran, a man with a vision, and a man who brought that vision into play that will benefit thousands here in Western PA and beyond. He will be MUCH missed #RIPMrJoeHardy

Solid sought legal separation on August 20, 2007, citing “hostile opposites” as an explanation. Rebecca Davis, 51, was Solid’s fourth wife.

He married her in December 2009. Solid was married to Jodi Santella Williams on November 21, 2014. Together they have one child named JJ Alexander Strong.

Strong served on the governing board of legal administrators of both the College of Pittsburgh and the Washington and Jefferson School. Strong reportedly said, “I have to die broke.

Until the end of my life I must cherish and participate in giving money to help work in people’s lives.”
