Lizzo, 34, claps back at the judgmental people who judged her body. The singer accepted Instagram on Jan. 6 to share a video of herself standing outside rocking a patterned bikini while explaining how “tired” she is from the shaming comments she’s received about her weight. “The body discourse is officially tired,” she began the clip.

“I’ve seen comments like, ‘Oh my god, I liked you when you were fat, why did you lose weight?’ to “Oh my god, why did you get a BBL? I liked your body before” to “Oh my god you’re so tall. You need to lose weight but for your health”, to “Oh my god you’re so small you need to get an ass or tits or something” to “Oh my god why did she get all this work done? It’s just too much work,’” she continued. “Are we alright? See the deception?”
The beauty went on to say that artists are in the industry to make art and not be judged on their body type. “Are we aware artists aren’t here to fit your ideals of beauty?” she asked. “Artists are here to make art. And this body is art. And I will do what I want with this body.”

She ended her video by adding that she wishes comments “cost money” so people judging could “see how much time we’re wasting on the wrong thing.” After Lizzo shared the post, it wasn’t long before fellow artists, friends, and fans shared their support for her opinions in the comments. “Girl, yes. Scream it out for her!” One fan exclaimed, while another wrote, “THANK YOU! I was just thinking about it today, we still talk about other peoples bodies regularly as usual it’s 2023 wtf anyone cares?

This isn’t the first time Lizzo has spoken out against body shamers. The “Juice” singer is known for regularly speaking up for women of all shapes and sizes, and in October she seemingly shut down rapper Kanye West for mentioning her name and weight during an interview with Tucker Carlson. “Everybody in America got my damn name in their damn mouth for no damn reason,” she said onstage during an intermission at her Toronto concert. “I mind my fat, black, beautiful affairs.”
