Quavo is commemorating his musical collaborator and nephew Takeoff in a new song just months after his death.
Takeoff, born Kirsnik Khari Ball, died on November 1 after being shot in the head and back as more than 30 people left a private party at a Houston bowling center. Police said the shooting followed a disagreement over a “lucrative” craps game, but that Takeoff was not involved and was “an innocent bystander”.
Police arrested a suspect, Patrick Xavier Clark, for murder in connection with the deadly December 1 shooting. He was released from the Harris County Jail on Tuesday on $1 million bail, according to court documents. His attorney, Letitia Quinones, said Clark had a “valid and merited claim of self-defense.”
Takeoff’s death at the age of 28 shocked the music world and those closest to him, including his Migos colleagues Offset and Quavo, who remembered the youngest member of their group as “Angel”.
In a heartfelt post following Takeoff’s memorial service in Atlanta on November 11, Quavo recalled memories of her youth collecting WWE action figures and recalled Takeoff’s passion for music.
“Dear Take, it’s so hard to tell you that I miss you because you were always with me and we did everything together,” Quavo wrote on Instagram. “Ever since we were kids, you’ve been by my side and looked up to me.”
On Wednesday, Quavo recalled Takeoff with a new song, “Without You”, with Vory. He shared the song on Instagram and wrote: “Long Live Take Infinity”.
