CHICAGO — He is one of the few members of the current Blackhawks players who will stand by the team over the long term as the rebuild continues.

Seth Jones is just beginning a long-term deal, signed ahead of the 2021-2022 season, as he seeks to bring veteran stability to a Blackhawks group in transition.

Despite missing nearly a month in late October and November with a thumb injury, Jones has done what he could to help the blue line recovery squad. For this he received an honor from the NHL on Thursday evening.

Jones will be the Blackhawks’ representative for the 2023 NHL All-Star Weekend taking place on February 3rd and 4th at the FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Fla., home of the Panthers. The Skills Challenge takes place this Friday while the All-Star Division Tournament takes place on Saturday.

The selection was made by the NHL’s ice hockey department, adding 32 players to the four division teams.

Jones, who was named an All-Star for the fifth time in his career, will likely be the lone representative of the struggling Blackhawks on the Central Division team. Two additional players and a goaltender from each division will be chosen in an online fan vote that ends January 17th.

The final 12 players for the All-Star Game will be announced on January 19th.

In 27 games this season for the Blackhawks, Jones has two goals and nine assists, including a goal against the Lightning Tuesday night at the United Center. The thumb injury sustained in late October cost the defenseman ten games, just a year after the Blackhawks played 78 of the 82 games in his freshman season.

Jones appeared in four All-Star games from 2017-2020 as a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
