Sad news for Venus Williams fans.
On Saturday morning (January 7), organizers of the Australian Open 2023 announced that the 42-year-old seven-time Grand Slam winner had been forced to withdraw from the tennis tournament.

Venus had to abandon the tournament due to injury.
“Venus Williams has withdrawn from the Australian Open due to an injury at the ASB Classic in New Zealand,” the Australian Open organizers said tweeted.
The organization also announced that Australian player Kim Birrell will take Venus’ wildcard spot in the tournament.
Venus made her debut at the Australian Open in 1998 and has appeared in the tournament 21 times.
The Australian Open 2023 begins on Monday 16th January at Melbourne Park and will last until Sunday 29th January.
